What a difference a day makes.
It’s the morning of Wednesday, January 22, 2025. We are making plans to meet the next day in San Francisco to share our work on distributed AI cloud infrastructure and prepare a proposal for the ARPA-H RAPID program. Our goal is to develop real-time, privacy-preserving AI applications for pediatric rare diseases. We’ve already begun discussions with researchers at Seattle Children’s Research and UPMC — recognized experts in pediatric rare diseases and enthusiastic supporters of our Pediatric Moonshot initiative.
At around 10AM we receive an email that the in-person meeting scheduled for the next day, Thursday at 9AM Pacific time has been cancelled, replaced by a much shorter Zoom meeting. Those of us who’ve been involved in corporate downsizing are familiar with the step of eliminating travel and freezing headcount as the first step.
No big deal. But it was surprising that this morning, Thursday January 23 at 6AM Pacific time, with only 3 hours until the Zoom meeting starts, that the no-cost virtual meeting was also cancelled.
What a difference a day makes.
